compassionate confrontation!

I have noticed in gifted evangelists a surprising tension between their deep compassion for people and the necessity of confronting those people with the Gospel so they might be saved. The compassion is often internal and hidden so most people only notice the external behaviour of confrontation.

Pete Gilbert wrote,‘Any evangelist worth their salt and growing in their anointing will also have a heart being constantly stretch by God’s Holy Spirit in terms of compassion and sensitivity, and the dual tug of the sensitive and the brash often lies at the heart of the character of many evangelists.’ ‘Radical Evangelism: A new Look at an Old Commission’ (Milton Keynes, England: Word Publishing, 1992) p25.
