This tutorial will show you a quick and simple way to find out the exact phrase match competition for your long tail keyword phrases.

After doing a keyword search, Go to the Google home page and type in your specific search term inside of “Quotation marks”.

Hit enter on your keyboard and when the search results load up in the screen, look to the right of your screen for the Number of Results listed.

As you can see in the image above the number of web pages for the search term “My Phrase In Quotes” is only 9.

If we were to perform the exact same search without the “Quotations”, the number would be considerably higher.

As you can see, there is now 8,010,000 pages with the words My Phrase In Quotes, which is quite a fair amount of difference between the two.

In the top example using the Quotation marks, you are looking for all pages indexed in Google with the exact phrase, all four words in the exact order.

Whereas, in the second example you are seeing all pages that contain the words My Phrase In Quotes, in any particular order.

There is a lot of speculation as to what is the least number of competing web pages you need to target when using this method.

The least amount the better obviously, but there are other factors that do come into play as far as on site optimization and the strength of the competitions web site is concerned, that I will save for another day.

But using this method of gauging your competition in Google will give you an insight as to the likely hood of you getting ranked on the front page of Google for your specific keywords or not.

Knowing what keywords people use when surfing the web will help you understand what they want, and therefore give you the power to put yourself in a position to supply them with what they are looking for.

The Google keyword tool is yet another great free product from Google.com.

This tutorial is basically an introduction on how to use Googles Free Keyword Research tool for finding targeted and specific keywords that real people type into Googles search engine when looking for stuff online.

You can find the Keyword Tool by doing a search at Google.com with the key words Keyword Tool, the first result to come up should be Googles Free Keyword Research tool, I would be very surprised if it isn’t

Otherwise you can type into your browsers address bar the following URL, https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Once the site is loaded into your browser you will see a page similar to the screenshot below.

There are quite a few functions for this tool, but for this tutorial I just want to show you the very basics of keyword research. I have numbered each of the main elements of the Keyword Research Tool homepage and described theme in detail below the image.

1. How would you like to generate keyword ideas? The keyword tool gives you Two choices for generating traffic data, in this example we want to make sure the Descriptive words or phrases option is checked.
2. Enter one keyword or phrase per line: This is the area you type in your main keyword or phrase. By leaving the Use Synonyms box checked, additional keyword ideas related to your main keyword will be returned at the bottom of the page.
3. Type the characters you see in the picture below: Fill in the capture text, this proves that you are not a bot trying to access the data but a real person.
4. Get Keyword Ideas: Click this button to generate your results.

Once you have entered your keyword or phase, filled in the capture image and hit the Get Keyword Ideas button, the Google keyword tool will generate a list of keywords that contain the specific word you initially typed in.

In the example below, I have used the Keyword Prayer, I have numbered each of the columns and described them in detail below the image.

1. Keywords. This column contains a list of all related searches using the specific keyword you entered. Notice how we now have a list of multi word phrases that contain our initial Keyword.
2. Advertiser Competition. This column is used to Gage the competition you would be up against if you would be running a Google Adwords campaign. A Google Adwords campaign is when you pay to advertise on Google.com, your results are shown in the sponsored links column to the right of your search results in Google.
3. Local Search Volume. The Local Search Volume column will provide search results for your country and language, this does not give you data specific to your immediate area, suburb, state etc…
4. Global Monthly Search Volume. The Global Monthly Search Volume column will return results from all countries and all languages.

By Clicking on any of the column header links you can rearrange the order in which the results are listed, from highest to lowest or lowest to highest.

Googles Free Keyword Research tool is one of my favorite and most used tools online.

I am always coming back to use this site, when deciding on article titles, blog posts and even choosing Domain names.

The first step is to make sure you are logged into your feedburner account.

On the Feedburner home page you will see a text area where you have the choice of adding your blog’s URL or the link to the RSS feed from your blog.

Although you can’t see it in the image below I just added the URL of my test blog, and as you will see as we move forward in this tutorial, Feedburner has recognized that my site has two available feeds.

The two main feeds Feedburner has found for my site are, one for the content source, and another for the comments on the posts.

If your Blog has multiple feeds, you may want to enter in the specific link of the RSS feed.

You can get the specific link of your RSS feed by right clicking on the RSS icon on your blog and saving the link, usually the option for saving a link is Save Link As.

In this set up, I want to add the blog’s content feed, but the steps outlined here will work with setting up both feeds.

After you have decided on the specific feed you want to add to your Feedburner account, click on the Next button to continue.

In the next step, Feedburner will pull in the details of your site, This will help to recognize which feed is from which site, this becomes especially useful if you have multiple sites.

The name of your feed is usually taken from your blog title. Click on the Next button to continue.

As yo can see from the image below Feedburner has now produced a brand new link for our RSS feed. This is the link we need when adding Feedburner to our Blog.

Click the Next button to Continue.

Next we are asked if we would like to add additional features to our Feedburner feed setting.

Feedburner by default provides great features, but you can also add more in the way of stats and analytics if you want.

Click on the I want more! check box.

Click Next to continue.

And finally in the next screen is where you see that you have successfully added your feed into your Feedburner account.

It’s also on this page that you can download any widgets and plugins that will help you in adding the Feedburner link into your website.

But as far as adding your blog to your Feedburner account goes, thats all there is to it.

This short tutorial will show you how to log into your Feedburner account.

Since Google.com purchased Feedburner, logging into your Feedburner account can now be as simple as logging into your Google account.

Once logged in to your Google account you will see a link to your Feedburner account on your Google products page.

Simply Click on the Feedburner link to access your Feedburner admin area.

Because you’re already logged into your Google account, the first screen you will see will be the welcome back screen.

This page will display a list of your current feeds, along with the number of subscribers to each feed.

It is also your starting point when adding a new feed to your Feedburner account.

Alternatively you can simply go straight to the Feedburner homepage.

You can access the feedburner homepage by simply typing into your web browsers address bar feedburner.com

If you are already logged into your Google account, the first page you will see is a welcome back page(see image above), if you are not already logged into your Google account you will see the standard Google login box to the right of your screen(see image below).

To log in, just type in the Gmail email address and it’s relevant password to enter your Feedburner account.

But Let me run through the process of setting up a Feedburner account to show you how easy it actually is.

When you open up your Google account homepage you will see a list of all of the services you have available currently on your Google account.

After setting up your Feedburner account you will see a link to Feedburner on this page.

The first place to start is at feedburner.com, just type into your web browsers address bar feedburner.com and Click enter on your keyboard.

You will notice on the Feedburner homepage a couple of options.

1. Claim your existing feedburner feeds.
2. Set up a new Feedburner account.

This tutorial will assume you allready have a Google account and you are wanting to add Feedburner to that existing Google account.

In the Sign up box on the right of screen, simply type in your Gmail email address and your Gmail password.

After logging in you will be asked to enter in the feed of your blog.

You can simply add your blogs feed into the text area in this screen.

But as far as setting up a Feedburner account that’s all there is to it, so if we were to go back to our Google account page, we will see a link directly to our new Feedburner account.

All you need to do now is start adding your feeds.

Feedburner takes an RSS feed and converts it into a format that can be read, or translated by the majoraity of RSS reading services.

Feedburner also provides it’s users with important statistics about their RSS subscribers, such as…

• The number of people who subscribe to the RSS feed.
• How many people are actually reading the feed content.
• The number of people clicking on the links in the feeds.
• The location of the subscribers who are reading the feed.
• and How people are reading and recieving the feed content.

By using the Feedburner service to deliver RSS content, you are also taking some of the load away from your webserver.

Feedburner is very userfreindly and easy to set up.

Your Feedburner account can also be added to your Google account, so if your logged into your Google account you can access your Feedburner account without having to log into a seperate service.

There is not a lot of technicle skill involved in adding your blogs RSS feed to your Feedburner account, nor is there when adding Feedburner to your website.

Feedburner also lets you set up multiple feeds on the one account, which means if you have more than one website that distributes content through RSS, you can set up Feedburner to manage all of your feeds.

Feedburner also provides multiple options for your feed to be delivered, One of those is email. which means your content is delivered directly to your subscribers email inbox.

You also have the ability to place Google advertising inside of your feeds.

Feedburner will also send out images, videos and podcasts, basically whatever you post onto your blog feedburner will send, even bookmarking links are included with your Feedburner content.

You could say that feedburner is like an all in one webhosting, delivery and analitycs account  for your RSS feed.

Every time you add a new post or edit an older one, your site-map is automatically updated, and all of the major search engines that support the site-map protocol are notified about your updates.

Installing the plugin is very easy, you can upload the plugin to your server using your favorite FTP client or use the Add New plugin feature inside of your wordpress admin area.

If you want to Download the plugin before uploading, you can find it at the Wordpress Resopsitory or you can can Download it directly from the plugin Authors site

If your installing it directly from inside of your Wordpress site, you can find the plugin by doing a keyword search using the  keywords, Google XML Site-maps.

Once your plugin has been installed and activated you will now need to setup the plugin.

You can find the settings for the plugin, under the Settings tab with a link with the text XML-Sitemap. Click on the link to configure the plugin.

The first thing you should do is build your site-map. you will see a link at the very top of your page, this is a very simple exercise just click the link, everything is done Automatically for you.

After the site-map has been built, you will get a Results of the last build process report, If there has been an issue with building your site-map you will see a report similar to the image below.

As you can see from the screen shot above there was an issue notifying Ask.com about the installation of my site-map.

As you continue to look further down the configuration page, you will notice there are a lot of default setting that are pre-checked.

I don’t usually change to much with these settings, but one thing I suggest you do, is add your Yahoo developer ID, you will need to insert your Yahoo ID in the Basic Options section, you can see where to insert this in the image below.

The Additional Pages section is where you add pages that are not part of your Wordpress installation.

The next two sections, Post Priority and Location Of Your Site-map File, I usually leave alone unless of course I have to change the file paths for any specific reason.

The next section, Sitemap Content, I check everything that I want to be indexed by the search engines.

The next section, Exclude Items, is where you can choose what pages you want to exclude from being visible in your site-map.

This can be especially handy if you want to hide specific pages that may have links to downloadable files.

The next section, Change Frequencies is where you decide on how often your pages get indexed or crawled.

This will not guarantee your pages will get crawled, but it tells the spiders what pages or parts of your site are more likely to be updated and which ones won’t.

And finally the Priorities.

This is where you decide on what are the most important parts or sections of your site.

Once you have configured your site-map as to how you would like to present your content to the Search Engine Spiders, make sure you save all of your changes by clicking on the Update Options button at the bottom of the page.

Just one more thing, and this isn’t necessarily a requirement but, it is recommended that you place a link to your site-map from the homepage of your site.

Your sitemap can usually be found at www.yourwebsite.com/sitemap.xml

The old saying “There is more than one way to skin a cat” definitely applies when installing Google analytics on your Wordpress website.

For example take a look at a post I wrote recently titled 34 Wordpress Plugins To Monitor Your Sites Traffic, there’s at least 30 plugins specifically for Google that will track your statistics in that list alone, and keep in mind new plugins will always be coming out in the future.

Plus there is always the old fashion method of just adding the javascript code into your themes footer.php file, but this may become a problem if you ever change your theme.

In this tutorial I want to show how you can install Google analytics on your site using the Ultimate Google Analytics plugin. I decided to use this particular plugin because it’s a light weight plugin that works seamlessly with the Google analytics product.

The first step is to Download the Ultimate Google Analytics plugin to your hard drive.

After Downloading it, Unzip the plugin file and upload it to your server using your FTP client.

The tutorial on How To Install Wordpress Plugins Using Filezilla will walk you through the process of uploading and activating Wordpress plugins.

After activating the plugin, we need to get our specific UA number for our site, If you haven’t already added your site to your Google analytics account, then read the article How To Add A New Website To Your Google Analytics Account before moving forward.

After logging into your Google analytics dashboard, you should see your websites domain name and next to it a UA number, Highlight and Copy the UA number.

The next step is to set up the Ultimate GA plugin.

Under the settings tab on the left sidebar of your Wordpress admin, you should see a link with the text Ultimate GA. Click on it to Continue.

If you can’t see this link check to make sure you have activated the plugin.

After opening the Ultimate GA settings screen, you will notice there is a text box, Account ID with this text inside of it UA-XXXXXX-X

Replace this with the UA number you previously copied from your Google account.

1. Paste in the UA number you previously copied from your Google account.
2. Click on the Update options button.

After completing the steps above, go back into your Google analytics dashboard to finish off the installation.

In the dashboard, on the right hand side you will see on the same line of your new domain name, a link that says Edit. Click on the link to continue.

A new window will open and you should see a link on the top right hand corner of your page with the text Check Status. Click on the link to continue.

Google will do a quick scan of your website looking for the UA number you have just installed, and if all goes well you should see a confirmation message and some text saying it’s Waiting for Data.

It usually takes about twenty four hours to start seeing any results, Google does not display real time data, so come back tommorrow and check out how well your site is performing.

The first thing you need to do is log into your Google account.

Once you have logged in,

look for the Analytics link on your Google account page. Click on the link to continue.

You will then be taken into your Google Analytics dashboard.

Once inside of your Analytics Dashboard look for the link that says Add Website Profile. Click on it to continue.

The next screen to open is where you need to input the URL of the website you are wanting to add.

The three steps you need to take when adding a new domain on this screen are…

1. Make sure the option for Add a Profile for a new domain is checked.
2. Enter in your URL and make sure you have the correct protocol for your domain.
3. Click Finish

After you have completed the steps above you are then presented with your tracking code. This is the code you are required to insert into your website.

1. Your Account ID number.
2. Your Java script code.
3. Click Finish.

And that’s all there is to adding a new domain to your existing Google Analytics account.

The next step is To Install Google Analytics In Wordpress.

To access the Google Analytics home page type into your web browsers address bar the following URL, “www.google.com/analytics/” and hit the enter key on your keyboard.

When you arrive at the Analytics home page, you will see a link on the right hand side of the page with the text Sign Up Now. Click on the link to continue.

In the next screen you will see a sign up box similar to the one you use when you log into your Gmail account, Simply enter in the same Gmail user-name and password you use with your Gmail account.

After you have successfully logged in, you will see in the bottom left hand corner of the screen a small Sign Up button, Click here to proceed.

Next, you will then be asked to put in your websites URL, location and time zone details, Click Continue when finished.

After proceeding to the next screen you will need to put in you personal details Last name, First name etc.. Click the Continue button when finished.

The next step is to read the user agreement, if you agree to the terms Click in the check box next to the Yes, I agree then Click on the Create New Account button.

The next screen will be where you can get your Analytics code, this is the code you need to insert into your blog or website.

If you are not ready to install this code yet, Don’t worry we can always come back and get this code later, the main point of this tutorial is to get you set up with an Analytics account, Click on the Finish button, and that’s it, we’re done.

So basically, that’s all there is to adding the Analytics service to your Google account.

If you now go to your Google Account home page you will see a link added for your Google Analytics, This link will take you straight to your Google Analytics admin area.
