The most obvious answer to “What is Gmail?” would be, Gmail is a free email service provided by Google.com.
I would like to add that Gmail offers so much more than just free email, But before I share with you what other functions Gmail has, I should cover some of the more obvious things about Gmail.
As I previously mentioned, Gmail is a free email service provided by Google, It’s just like any other email client, where you can send and receive emails, and like many other email clients, Gmail gives you the ability to search through your emails inbox in a similar way that you would use Google to search the web.
Gmail is also a great email management system, By that I mean, you can have multiple email address coming into one Gmail account and alternatively you can also send emails from any of your email accounts from the one Gmail account.
For example I have a half dozen email addresses, all filtering into my one Gmail account, I regularly receive emails to about four of those email address.
But I only ever have to check one Gmail account, which alternatively also allows me to send emails from any one of my other email addresses, all from one Gmail account, and all without anyone ever knowing I am using Gmail.
Having a Gmail account also allows you the freedom to access your emails from any computer that has internet access, and with the the ability to access the web like never before ie; with mobile devices such as iphone and blackberry etc… it makes staying up to date with your emails easier than ever.
Gmail also has a fantastic filtering system, so you can also filter your emails so they can be archived without you having to open them straight away.
As anĀ example, I’m currently subscribed to a couple of membership programs where I receive weekly classes, but at the same time I’m also recieving about 50+ emails a day, so it is very easy to loose track of my lessons
By setting up a filter and archiving the emails as they come in, I know I can simply open up the correct folder and all of my lessons are all stored in the one easy to manage location.
Gmail also has a very generous amount of storage, I think currently I have just under 7.5 gb of storage, and at the moment, I am only using about 15% of it, and I receive alot of emails every day, so as you can imagine I have a lot of emails stored on my account, not to mention all of the file attachments that I send and receive regularly, and the best part is, it’s all stored on the web, so if I ever have a hard drive crash, every single email is stored safely for me to access at any time.
Gmail also gives you easy access to your other Google accounts, I can easily access any of my other Google accounts by simply adding the correct widget to my Gmail and then clicking straight through to my Google docs, Analytics, Adsense or any one of the many Google services you can take advantage of.
Gmail also has it’s own chat feature, this is very similar in concept to Skpe, where you can chat with other Gmail users anywhere in the world via the text chat or the face to face Video/ Audio chat feature, all completely for free.
You can really do so much with your Gmail account that you can’t do with any other web based email client and I personally think a Gmail account is a must have for anyone spending considerable amount of time online.
and finally, one more thing I like about Gmail is the quality of their spam filtering, I rarely have spam enter my inbox and on the other side of that, I rarely have to filter out good emails from my spam folder.
Gmail is always adding new features, so you will always be surprised at the qualty of your Gmail email client.
If you don’t already have a Gmail account go and set one up today.

You can even use Gmail with your organization domain name instead of your current email server, if you need less the 50 accounts Google will let you use it for free.
