This morning I read a post on smallbusinessnewz.com titled Ad Dollars Follow Time Spent to Social Networks, Blogs.
It was revealed in the article that a staggering 17% of people who where online in August were using Social media. Three times the amount compared to the same time last year.
I then went on to read another post on how some churches in Australia are doing a massive advertising campaign, and it made me wonder just how effective their campaign will actually be?
As the church, are we one step behind when it comes to marketing and promoting our message.
Being a small business owner, I have a genuine interest in how I use social media in my business, but as a Christian my interest in using social media to build the church is far greater.
It surprises me why churches in general, continue to ignore the use of social media in ministry as a form of church marketing.
If we were to look at the latest trends and studies regarding business and took that information and applied to the church I believe we would be so much better off.
I personally don’t think it would take much extra effort for our church leaders to build their own online ministries or profiles.
If the church was to start trading their advertising dollars for a few minutes of their time each day, the long term benefits could produce positive results on a global scale.
In my opinion the benefits of using this type of marketing (Social Media) would be far greater than a blanket advertising campaign that in all likelihood is falling on deaf ears.
The benefits of creating a social media advertising campaign strategy for your church would be,
- Personal relationships would be formed.
- You enter into the world of people who are genuinely interested in what you have to say.
- People have an opportunity to converse on a personal level.
- and your Church’s mandate and personal profile could start spreading in a viral manor throughout the entire globe. (Which, by the way is a good thing.)
If you think it would take too much effort to build and maintain a social profile then I recommend you have a look at this post titled The Final 10% of a Job. It’s talking about how a little extra effort can have compounding possitive results.
